We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Cancer Service in Stockton and Hartlepool. Our service provides assessment and evidence based interventions to individuals living with and beyond cancer.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and innovative, multidisciplinary service and you will also be joining a diverse medical psychology team, working within an acute setting across many clinical specialties. This provides excellent additional opportunities from Macmillan and our psychology team , including peer support , supervision and CPD alongside psychology colleagues. This post provides an opportunity to aspiring clinicians to gain valuable experience, providing the opportunity to work alongside and support qualified psychologists within a clinical health psychology department.

The Northern Cancer Alliance (NCA) is an NHS body, committed to improving services for people affected by Cancer, across the North East and North Cumbria. Macmillan is a national charity, also committed to improving the wellbeing of people affected by cancer. This post will support the NCA/ Macmillan 'Improving Mental Wellbeing in Cancer Project'. The postholder will support the development of this work across Hartlepool and North Tees, working closely with the Lead Clinical Psychologist(s) in this area.

Main duties of the job To assist in project work including event planning, project related administration, presentations, and the collection and interpretation of data. Tasks will be agreed and reviewed at appropriate intervals under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, but the post holder will take these tasks forward independently on a day-to-day basis.

To a more limited extent, when appropriate, to support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients within the Cancer Psychology Service, providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the direct supervision of a qualified psychologist. Under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist they will provide psychological interventions, support with training, research, audit, and service developments.

Finally, you will be expected to have a keen interest in clinical health psychology and to demonstrate this eagerness to gain further experience in this area within your application for this post.

  • 2:1 or above in psychology

  • Additional qualifications in psychology (MSc etc.)
