Applebays Afterschool are looking for a practitioner to join our team.

We have settings in Torrance and Lenzie and are looking for a confident individual who works well within a team.

The successful applicant MUST hold an SVQ 3 or equivalent. At least one year childcare experience is necessary.

hours are 8-9 am and 3-6pm

As an afterschool practitioner, your role would involve working with school-aged children in an after-school program.

Here's an overview of what you might do in your position:


Supervising and ensuring the safety of children: Your primary responsibility is to ensure the well-being and safety of the children in your care.

You'll need to monitor them during activities, keep an eye on their interactions, and ensure a secure environment.

Planning and organizing activities:
You'll be responsible for developing engaging and age-appropriate activities for the children. This could include arts and crafts, sports, games, educational activities, and group projects. You'll need to plan ahead and create a schedule to keep the children entertained and engaged.

Encouraging social and emotional development:
Afterschool programs often focus on fostering social skills and emotional well-being.

You'll play a role in creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere where children can develop their social skills, build friendships, and resolve conflicts in a healthy manner.


Communicating with parents and guardians:
Regular communication with parents or guardians is crucial. You'll need to provide updates on their child's progress, share any concerns, and discuss any specific needs or requirements.

Maintaining records and documentation:
It's important to keep accurate records of attendance, incidents, and any important information about the children. This documentation helps track progress and provides valuable information for future planning.

Collaborating with colleagues:
Working as part of a team is common in afterschool programs. Collaborating with other afterschool practitioners, volunteers, and school staff is essential for creating a cohesive and effective program.


Overall, your role as an afterschool practitioner in Lenzie, East Dunbartonshire, is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children, engage them in meaningful activities, and support their academic and social development outside of regular school hours.
