Dispensary Assistant

Oak Tree Surgery and Pensilva Health Centre are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Dispensary Assistant to join our expanding friendly and dynamic team.

Working pattern - Thursday, Friday, and Monday 8.30am - 6pm hours per week.

A Dispensary Assistant is an active role and provides a point of contact for patients and acts as a focal point of communication between patients, GPs and other medical staff.

They also assist the Clinical Team and Dispensers in their efforts to offer an effective and efficient repeat prescription service.

• To work as a member of the Dispensing Team by assisting the Dispensers with clerical duties associated with the smooth running of the department
• To receive repeat and some acute prescriptions made either in person or by telephone
• To be the first point of contact for medication queries from patients
• To treat patients at all times in a courteous and helpful manner, dealing with queries and providing assistance as required
• Ensure the reception area is clean and tidy and equipment is working to maintain a professional image.
• Report any problems to the Dispensary Lead or Practice Manager
• To answer the telephone and make required calls in a polite and professional manner
• Issue completed prescription items to patients or their representatives
• Input repeat medication requests using the practice computer system
• Receive and balance prescription monies and cheques received
• Organise Doctors prescriptions for signing
• Unpack and check incoming medication orders from the supplier
• To maintain baskets for current prescriptions only and the removal of out of date prescriptions
• To ensure safe disposal of returned medication
• Complete photocopying of medication pack leaflets and other items when necessary
• To abide by statutory and practice regulations regarding fire, health and safety, and security issues
• To be able to cover holiday/sickness as and when needed
• To be able to travel to both practices and work from either Oak Tree Surgery or Pensilva Health Centre as required
