Halifax, Calderdale, United Kingdom Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust Full time

The NHS Newborn Hearing Screening programme aims to identify moderate, severe and profound deafness and hearing impairment in newborn babies.

Early identification of hearing impairment gives children a better chance of developing speech and language skills, and of making the most of social and emotional interaction from an early age.

The purpose of this role is to work as a member of the team participating in the hearing screening of newborn babies, under the supervision of the Hearing Screening Manager.

As a newborn hearing screener you will have direct handling of newborn babies and contact with parents.

You will be required to perform hearing screens on newborn babies using automated equipment, record and collect data and liaise with parents and other professionals.

The post holder will ensure all parents of eligible babies are offered the screen in a timely fashion and that the screen is carried out according to the national and local standards.

If you are not already a trained Newborn Hearing Screener, you would need to commit to obtaining a Level 3 Health Screener Diploma within 18 months (fully paid for by the service).

This qualification is compulsory for staff new to Newborn Hearing Screening and requires work in the employee's own time for a period of 9-12 months.

Upon completion you are required to stay in post for 24 months.
