Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Agricultural Solicitor with a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience to join our client's established Agricultural and Rural Affairs team. The ideal candidate will offer specialized legal advice to clients in the agricultural sector, dealing with various matters such as land transactions, agricultural tenancies, rural planning, and diversification projects. This role demands a thorough understanding of the legal challenges encountered by farmers, landowners, and rural businesses, alongside a proactive and client-centric approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Advisory and Case Management:
    • Provide expert legal advice on agricultural and rural issues.
    • Efficiently handle a diverse caseload and deliver high-quality service.
    • Create customized legal solutions based on each client's needs.
  • Land and Property Transactions:
    • Manage complex land transactions, leases, and easements.
    • Conduct due diligence, draft contracts, and negotiate terms.
    • Ensure compliance with land registration regulations.
  • Agricultural Tenancies and Leasing:
    • Offer guidance on agricultural tenancies and drafting agreements.
    • Assist with tenancy disputes, renewals, and succession planning.
    • Address issues related to rights of way and succession.
  • Rural Planning and Diversification:
    • Provide legal support on rural planning matters.
    • Advise on diversification projects like renewable energy schemes.
    • Navigate clients through regulatory frameworks and obtain necessary approvals.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Advice:
    • Stay updated on agricultural law changes and inform clients.
    • Provide guidance on environmental regulations and subsidy schemes.
    • Assist clients with compliance in health, safety, and food standards.
  • Dispute Resolution:
    • Represent clients in agricultural disputes.
    • Manage litigation cases and negotiate settlements effectively.
    • Use ADR methods for favorable outcomes.
  • Business Development:
    • Expand the agricultural law practice through strategic initiatives.
    • Identify new business opportunities and build client relationships.
    • Enhance the firm's presence in the agricultural sector through networking.
  • Team Collaboration and Leadership:
    • Collaborate with colleagues to provide comprehensive legal services.
    • Mentor junior team members and contribute to process improvement.
    • Contribute to departmental development and enhancement.


Requirements
  • Education: Qualified Solicitor with a current practising certificate.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years PQE in agricultural law.
  • Skills: Strong expertise in agricultural and rural affairs law, excellent analytical and negotiation skills, superior written and verbal communication abilities, effective caseload management, attention to detail, proficiency in legal research and drafting, and strong client relationship management.
