Avian Ecology is looking for an experienced Senior/ Principal Ecologist to join our team of skilled professionals.

As a Senior / Principal Ecologist you will lead on varied projects and work as part of a larger project team.

You will act as a first point of contact by working closely with our clients providing clear advice and robust documentation to support projects across the UK.

You will ensure ecology input is considered by project teams by providing high quality technical advice with the support of the wider team as well as supervising junior ecologists and subcontractors.

Liaison with planning authorities, statutory agencies and stakeholders is a key part of the role which provides excellent opportunities to further develop your project management skills.


Key requirements are:

  • Strong experience of field ecology, survey techniques and of carrying out surveys as part of infrastructure design or construction
  • A clear understanding of relevant UK wide environmental /ecological policy and legislation
  • Demonstrable ability to provide clear, succinct and robust technical reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments and Technical Appendices
  • Experience of reviewing technical ecology reports written by others
  • Experience in advising clients on the ecological requirements of their projects and knowledge of consulting with regulators and stakeholders.
  • Experience of using the Defra Biodiversity Metric is advantageous, but training can be provided
  • Senior Ecologists will be experienced in managing ecological input on smallmedium scale projects
  • Principal Ecologists will be experienced in managing ecological input on mediumlarge scale projects.
Most importantly, you must have a strong desire to excel as a professional ecologist.

This is a full-time permanent role. Salary is competitive and dependent on experience.

As part of this, you will be entitled to our Profit Share scheme, with 25 Annual Leave days as well as bank holidays.
