The Community Respiratory team based at Wren House in Chelmsford is expanding their team.

We are looking for a band 7 Nurse of Physiotherapist with experience with respiratory and ideally pulmonary rehabilitation and COPD patients to assist in managing the day to day running of the service.

To assess and treat complex respiratory patients within the community in clinics and home visits.


We are in process of setting up breathlessness hubs, where patients will be assessed and diagnosed using a MDT approach of nursing/ physiotherapy consultant and metal heath support.

We are also running the respiratory Virtual ward managing patients in the community on a daily basis to avoid admission or support as early discharge.

The aim of the team is to provide comprehensive respiratory care to patients in a community setting with an emphasis on people at risk of admission to secondary care.

We have weekly MDTs with specialist consultants.


The post holder will be responsible for helping with the delivery and leading highly specialist clinical care to their own caseload and service within their speciality area for the COPD service.

In doing so, they will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient centred programmes of care ensuring that they practice within their sphere of competence and knowledge.

The post holder will work to professional and regulatory body codes, standards and guidance at all times ensuring that their practice is grounded in evidence based theoretical and practical knowledge.

They will be responsible for developing new and innovative clinical practices responding to emerging knowledge and techniques and working with other services where appropriate to make improvements.


The post holder will help to develop breathlessness hubs and spirometry as well as assist with the line management of the COPD/Oxygen service and virtual respiratory ward.

This post is within the established respiratory team in Mid Essex.

  • Utilises highly developed specialised knowledge covering a range of procedures and underpinned by relevant broadbased knowledge, experience and competence.
  • Interpretation of spirometry results and performing spirometry in the clinics
  • Responsible for clinical pathways appropriate to field of work.
