- At the Environment Agency we are looking for experienced environmental regulators to work across our Thames Area who will be responsible for the regulation of waste industry sites.
You will be expected to show technical leadership including leading on waste sector(s), providing advice and guidance to both internal and external customers.
You will ensure regulated industry in the area comply with their permit conditions to protect the local environment. You will demonstrate and role model the behaviours and cultures of the Environment Agency in all you do.You will undertake a range of technical compliance assessment activities, including auditing, at a wide range of waste sites, using your influencing and negotiating skills to ensure improved permit compliance.
You will make complex assessments of operators' ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution, and optimise use of resources, as well as undertaking enforcement action where necessary.
You will also respond to and investigate environmental incidents making sure suitable preventative and protective action is implemented, as well as being a technical mentor and coach to less experienced officers.
The team 1- Working within teams of professional Waste Regulators and Environment Officers you'll lead colleagues on tackling diverse regulatory and environmental challenges in sectors such as hazardous, non-hazardous waste, landfill, biowaste and metals.
You'll be based in one of our Waste teams, located in either Farnham, Surrey or in Wallingford, Oxfordshire with some home working as part of our hybrid approach.
Teams have responsibilities that involve working both outdoors and in the office.- Experience/skills required 1
- We're seeking someone with significant regulatory experience gained through regulatory, consultancy or industry roles who'll quickly become operationally effective.
Everyone starting in a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed to succeed.
It's important that you hold the following key skills:- whilst a degree is not required, a science background is essential;
- practical operational experience, knowledge of environmental regulation;
- experience delivering competing environmental improvements using a range of tools;
- technical knowledge, strong interpersonal, team-working skills;
- proactive, organised, self-motivated, confident communicator, comfortable influencing and negotiating to deliver environmental compliance outcomes;
- understanding of business and the customers you'll be advising;
- experience of coaching/mentoring;
- team-player, sharing skills, experience delivering the best environmental outcomes.
