The BBC's 1830 news programmes are the biggest shows on UK television and our regional online news reaches millions of unique browsers every week.
We want our great journalism to travel even further across platforms and ensure our digital, TV and radio operations work effectively together to deliver real value for audiences.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about news and can create, drive and deliver original journalism distinctive to audiences in Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.
Main ResponsibilitiesYou will be a great journalist who loves to lead, who inspires collaboration and innovation across platforms and who delivers stories across genres that really impact with audiences in one of the most diverse parts of England.
You will lead editorial and operational decision making in a multimedia newsroom.You would output produce the 1830 programme on a regular basis but would also be expected to perform other key roles including leading digital teams and multimedia planning when required.
You will work to the Senior News Editor and will be asked to deputise for them on occasion. You will also be expected to fulfil management and leadership duties.
As an integral part of our leadership team, you'll work alongside the other Assistant Editors, the Digital Editor and the Senior News Editor to help manage and inspire everything we do.
You will line manage members of the journalism team, from researcher to senior journalist level, and be expected to fulfil our commitment to maintain a healthy working environment, with the highest standards of behaviour and creativity.
You will be a professional journalist with extensive editorial experience of news content production and the ability to develop and implement new and innovative approaches for a multimedia newsroom.
You will have proven editorial judgement, able to make sound decisions promptly along with a detailed understanding of current techniques and technology for newsgathering and production.
An ability to use new technologies to create opportunities to enhance output and improve working practices would be an advantage.
You will demonstrate a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understand how individual differences can benefit the organisation.
