Maternal Medicine Specialist Midwife

Fulfil the role of a midwife as defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Midwifery Rules and Code of Practice and reflect the Trust's guidelines, policies and standards of practice.

To provide clinical and professional leadership and to act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower staff to develop personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential.

Act as an autonomous practitioner and appropriately provide highly specialised advice and support to women with pre-existing complex medical conditions or co-morbidities, their families and other health care professionals.

To support antenatal clinics, midwife led clinics and manage own case-load and departmental caseload effectively.


Be available as an expert in caring for women with pre-existing complex medical conditions or co-morbidities for midwives and doctors to ensure care provided within the Trust is effective and evidenced based to support safe practice.

To maintain effective communication and working relationships within the team and between the team and other health care professionals. To actively foster strong links with other clinical areas and support agencies. To actively participate in local and national audits.


Monitor and evaluate clinical standards within the department, ensuring that clinical practices are evidence-based and bench marked against best practice locally, regionally and nationally.
