Experienced Social Worker, Fostering Services

Swindon, Swindon, United Kingdom Swindon Borough Council Full time
Here in Swindon we have a clear vision and plans to reduce the need for Children to come into our care with our new adolescent offer and edge of care work and we are continually working as a partnership to ensure our children are safe.

We're making a real difference to the lives of the children and families we work with in Swindon.

About Us

We have now implemented the Family Safeguarding Model in 2022, a new multi-disciplinary approach that supports a whole-system change to child protection for children up to adolescence, focusing on supporting the needs of children and adults so that children can safely remain within their families. This is a great opportunity to join us now and be part of this pioneering work as we continue to learn from multi agency family work and support more families to look after their children in their families and wider communities.

In addition, we have an established and growing our ASYE programme, linked to our Social Care & Leadership Academy, offering mentoring support, fostering a culture of learning and challenge, manageable caseloads and good quality supervision, as we commit and invest in growing our own talent, as well as our experienced social workers.

About the role

An opportunity has arisen for an initial 10 month fixed term contract into the Fostering Service to undertake the role of the Mockingbird Liaison Worker.

The post is an Experienced Social Work position. The post holder will report to the Fostering Team Manager/Assistant Team Manager and will be responsible for the mobilisation and implementation of the Mockingbird Project within the Fostering Service.

Mockingbird is an evidenced based and licenced model of support for foster carers led by the fostering network. It seeks to model the support naturally found in a large close family. In the model 5-8 fostering households are linked together in what is called a constellation supported by a home hub carer. That home hub carer always has 2 empty beds but provides support to all the homes including sleepovers for children, emergency support, advice, guidance, and emotional support. They will also organise activities, trips and social events for the constellation. The model is shown to increase home stability for children in care. We also plan to use as part of our recruitment promotion in future. There will be a Mockingbird co-ordinator who will oversee the project.
