The North West Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country.

It also includes 1,501 bridges and structures, including the Kessock Bridge which carries the A9 north of Inverness and the A87 Skye Crossing.


It is preferable that the TRISS Operative, reporting to the Operations Supervisor, should have experience working on roads and in traffic management, with the necessary skills to carry out various minor road maintenance operations.

Training can be provided if necessary.

There is a requirement to work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern to ensure that roads are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Responsibilities and Activities


To provide quick initial response to all types of incidents on the network to ease congestion and provide updates via control room where necessary.


Role includes:

  • Carry out TRISS patrols over the network extents of the M80 DBFO
  • Assist Police and members of the public
  • Debris removal and litter picking
  • Minor repairs
  • Traffic monitoring
  • Respond to incidents as required
  • Offer assistance/report breakdowns
  • Inspections as required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Confident and considerate attitude
  • Experience & qualifications within road maintenance and traffic management
