What is a Health Physics Monitor?
Health Physics Monitors are vital in delivering our mission; creating a safe and secure environment for future generations.
You'll be part of a team of experienced professionals all dedicated to maintaining safety on site and creating a permanently secure, environmentally sound space for tomorrow.
A Sellafield Ltd Health Physics Monitor uses specialist instruments to carry out radiological monitoring, the measurements are interpreted so protection advice can be provided to Nuclear Operators.
They support work activities where radiation and contamination are identified as hazards; taking measurements of radiation dose rates and contamination levels, monitoring personnel, responding to alarms and supporting emergency arrangements.
This role is critical to ensuring safe operations in nuclear facilities and requires a high level of attention to detail, accuracy in recording and interpreting measurements, and the right attitude to health and safety.

- Essential Skills:
- Grade C or Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths, English & Science or equivalents.
- You must be 18 or over.
- Able to carry out mathematical calculations and to record information to defined standards.
- Able to work in radiation and contamination controlled areas as a classified person (radiation worker).
- Able to wear personal protective equipment, respiratory equipment or breathing apparatus (such as PVC and Air fed suits, respirators and gloves).
- Able to work in a wide range of environments including outdoor work (some of the roles can be physically demanding and include manual tasks e.g. climbing ladders, working at height, working in confined spaces or hot/cold working environments, and responding promptly to emergency situations).
- Able to work with mínimal supervision either alone or alongside other work disciplines.
- Able to provide frontline advice to others and resilient in challenging situations.
- Able to understand and comply with the requirements of Monitors Instructions.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Comfortable using basic IT tools.
