Solicitor – Regulatory Team (Manchester)

A unique opportunity has arisen for a Solicitor to join the Regulatory Team in our Manchester office.

The successful applicant will be a member of a growing and successful team who work closely with our Commercial Road Transport team and manage an interesting and varied caseload including:

  • Transport related land management, parking compliance, enforcement, and legislation
  • Linked government and stakeholder engagement, lobbying, and international jurisdiction advisory
  • Trade association membership advice and support – chartered trading standards institute member, British Parking Association approved legal supplier to membership, chartered institute of PR professionals
  • Regulatory compliance and regulator investigation defence
  • Data protection compliance and data protection officer advice and assistance
  • Corporate to consumer protection
  • Product safety and compliance
  • Sports management and brand protection
  • Reputation protection and media management
  • Supply chain related judicial review and linked litigation

In this newly established role, you will have the opportunity to grow your existing skillset and learn from leading lawyers with extensive experience and long-established reputations in their specialist areas of law. You will be supporting the team in:

  • Providing sector based Regulatory Compliance and linked litigation defence
  • Assisting with Traffic Commissioner operator licensing and applications, Public Inquiry hearings, Border Force appeals and Commercial Transport related compliance advice
  • Engaging with significant client base with regards to litigation/resolution options and compliance
  • Assisting with preparing for Judicial Review against government departments
  • Assisting with Lobbying of Government departments and ministers.
  • Detailed note taking of client meetings and arranging follow up tasks with leading counsel etc.
  • Data Protection Officer assistance, dealing with SARs, preparing DPIAs ROPAs etc, liaising with ICO where appropriate
  • Preparing sector-based Planning permissions and advertising Consent applications
  • Fielding and converting potential new client enquiries
  • Assisting Trade associations with their membership legal issues – BPA Lawline – assisting in development of mirror models e.g. CPT Lawline by JMW etc.

There will also be the opportunity to provide entrepreneurial support to the team by way of blog writing, creation of podcast content, webinars and presentations, and delivering training.

Person Specification

To succeed in this role, you will ideally be a Qualified Solicitor at NQ level, or with up to 2 years PQE. However, we will also consider those who are due to qualify and have an interest in this varied area of law. You should also be able to demonstrate:

  • A genuine interest in this area of law and a willingness to learn and grow with the team
  • Personable and able to interact with many different types of client
  • Adaptable - able to react to a situation, take responsibility and reprioritise
  • Computer skills, specifically word and excel.

Experience of Regulatory and/or Litigation law would be preferred but is not essential.
