Background


The College of Social Science has set itself ambitious targets to improve the quality and quantity of research activity over the coming years.

The College has strong ambitions to increase the level of research income generated and enhance the quality of its research.

This involves recruiting sector leading academics who will develop larger funding bids and changing the existing culture to encourage all staff to engage more extensively with income generation and delivering the College's research ambitions.

Excellent professional services support is vital to developing this research culture.

Enhanced support for post award will relieve administrative burden from academic staff and will enable the College to develop a more integrated approach to supporting research working in partnership with the University's newly formed Research Strategy and Services Division.


Role Summary


The post holder will provide excellent research support throughout the College across a complex range of activities including high quality support to funded research projects and assisting with College wide research initiatives.

The post holder will be a key conduit between academic and professional services colleagues within the College and the wider institution.


The post holder will be responsible, as part of a small team, for delivering agreed services to an excellent level to Principal Investigators (PI's) and will be an active participant in establishing successful ways of working.


Activities will range from finding solutions for complex queries relating to particular funded projects, liaising with other College and University services to resolve problems through to supporting colleagues in the use of Research support systems.

The balance in focus of these activities is likely to be adjusted according to the needs of Schools throughout the year and therefore a flexible and pragmatic approach will be required.


The post holder will be required to independently establish and maintain efficient and effective administrative systems and seek to continuously improve these in line with feedback.
