University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust are excited to invite you to our Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) Open Day on Thursday 6 th June at Southlands hospital, Shoreham-by-Sea.

You will be invited to a welcome session, when we will tell you more about our Trust, the CDC programme, you will meet leaders from the different services and you will be interviewed on the day.

We at University Hospital Sussex have lots of opportunity for you. 2023 saw us open phase 1 of our CDC hub at Southlands, with brand-new Radiology facilities. In Autumn 2024, we are excited to open phase 2 of this project. This will provide diagnostic pathways including echocardiography, lung function testing, ultrasound and gynaecological treatments.

We are now recruiting our staff for this purpose built unit, which will provide amazing educational opportunities for staff to grow and develop in their careers.

The post holder will be an effective member of our ultrasound team, providing the highest standard of ultrasound service to patients in our care.

The aim of this role is to work as an independent sonographer performing a wide range of ultrasound examinations:

Provide theoretical and clinical training for Trainee Sonographers, Specialist Registrars and Student Radiographers.
Be required to work collaboratively with clinical, managerial and admin colleagues to develop and enhance ultrasound imaging services.

Be responsible for own CPD and professional and personal development through personal study, reflection, attendance at MDT meetings and ultrasound education meetings.

They will participate and support clinical audit and quality assurance testing, promoting the continuous improvement in service delivery and quality within ultrasound imaging.

Follow policies, procedures and protocols relating to and underpinning the ultrasound service in line with national guidance.

To observe and care for patients under investigation, liaising with clerical staff, porters, nurses and medical staff as appropriate in the best interests of the patient and any escorts
If appropriate explain images during ultrasound scans to the patient, discuss normal findings with the patient and provide reassurance
Providing advice to clerical staff booking appointments.
Communicate incidents/complaints to the Lead Sonographer and participate in the investigation of complaints as requested.

Communicate with patients through the use of advocates, information leaflets and if necessary family members in an appropriate manner to their level of understanding.

To provide practical and theoretical training, with verbal and written feedback for Trainee Sonographers, Specialist Registrars and Student Radiographers.

Specialist Registrar and Trainee Sonographer primary images and reports will also be checked, secondary reported and authorised by the post holder.

Escalate and accurately document communication with the Referrer, clinicians or nursing staff when ultrasound findings are important or unexpected.

If appropriate, the reporting sonographer should advise on further management, or book follow up ultrasound examinations, following departmental protocols.

BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalen
Post graduate Ultrasound qualifications PgC, PgD, MSc, DMU. Evidence of continual professional development
Commitment to continuous professional development. Quality Assurance Knowledge of principles of clinical governance and risk assessment Evidence of audit and R & D
Able to prioritise own work load of academic and supervised clinical work
