Payroll Officer

  • Reports to: Finance Operations Manager
  • Location: Redhill, Surrey
  • Salary: Up to 35,000 + Benefits
  • Type: 37 hours per week

Dovetail and Slate are recruiting on behalf of a leading education provider based in Redhill, Surrey.

Please note: This role is on-site (not hybrid/remote)

Main Duties

  • Ensure accurate calculation, recording, and processing of staff payments, including authorizations, tax, and NI deductions, and distribute payslips per the monthly payroll timetable.
  • Complete and submit statutory returns (PAYE, NI, pensions) on time, and ensure accurate payments on behalf of institutions (HMRC, pension schemes).
  • Assist with queries on gross pay, tax, pensions, and maintain payroll system data accuracy.
  • Manage contracts and payments for hourly staff, process sessional claims timely, and handle year-end tax and pension procedures, including issuing P60s and P11Ds.
  • Monitor and reconcile payroll data, including pay costs and staff absences, ensuring compliance with financial guidelines.
  • Maintain payroll documentation, allocate tasks to meet targets, establish performance indicators, implement audit recommendations, and ensure effective communication with HR and Finance.

Requirements

  • Previous payroll experience
  • Experience completing Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Financial reporting experience
  • Intermediate Excel / MS Office skills
  • GCSE Level 2 in Maths & English or equivalent
  • Able to pass a DBS check
