Fishtek ltd, part of the RSK Group, is seeking a Principal Fisheries Scientist to join the team on a full-time, permanent basis. The office is located in Dartington, South Devon, with potential flexibility depending on the candidate.

Fishtek Consulting is a specialized consultancy that focuses on fisheries science and river engineering, catering to a diverse global clientele. Our collaborative team of environmental scientists, fisheries biologists, and engineers is dedicated to devising innovative solutions for fisheries and environmental challenges, ranging from fish and eel pass design to river restoration and more.

We are in search of a dedicated and experienced freshwater Principal Fisheries Consultant with a strong track record in consultancy, including bid preparation, project management, and spearheading fish and eel pass design projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate quotations and tender responses
  • Conduct site visits and surveys
  • Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies
  • Secure permissions and consents, including interactions with relevant authorities
  • Lead technically on various projects, notably fish and eel pass design
  • Produce technical reports and offer specialized expertise to clients and colleagues
  • Manage projects, overseeing budgets and schedules
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members
  • Collaborate with engineers and CAD technicians in design development
  • Review technical work in alignment with industry standards and guidelines

Person Specification:

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or environmental field
  • Significant experience in Environmental consultancy
  • Valid driver's license
  • Prior expertise in fish and eel pass design
  • Strong technical report writing abilities
  • Familiarity with fisheries legislation and industry norms
  • Experience in related disciplines like freshwater fisheries monitoring, geomorphology, or river restoration
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience guiding junior colleagues

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field
  • Additional years of consultancy experience
  • Proficiency in MS Project
  • Chartered Environmentalist status (IFM, CIWEM, or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of GIS or CAD
  • Experience with Prince 2 project management or equivalent

Salary and Benefits:

  • Remuneration of up to £60,000 depending on background
  • Preference for full-time role, open to discussing other arrangements
