Chemist - Laboratory

Location - Wednesbury Hazardous Waste Facility (WS10 7NR)

Hours - 40 per week with a rotating shift of 7am - 4pm and 9am - 6pm

A quick look at the role.

The Laboratory carries out routine analysis of waste samples to provide support for a chemical Treatment Plant that processes chemical waste delivered in road Tankers and an Hazardous waste Transfer Station that handles waste in containers/drums.

The Lab also undertakes chemical analysis of customer waste samples and routine daily compliance testing.

Control vehicle access/driver induction and operate weighbridge. Carry out all administrative checks on statutory paperwork on arrival/departure and complete comprehensive pre-acceptance analysis of sales samples. Deliver sales enquires to CS within a targeted timescale. Carry out waste verification analysis of loads on arrival and complete drum analysis on request. Generate reports and liaise with the Bulk enquiry team and chemists. Provide support analysis for chemist as & when requested. Ensure all lab records are maintained and current. Maintain all lab equipment & instruments and calibrate. Ensure lab consumables are sufficiently stocked.

Requirements

Here's what we require:

Experience as a Chemist in a Hazardous Waste Management business or chemical/manufacturing industry. Minimum of a HNC Chemistry Qualification. IT literate –use of Microsoft office. Familiarity with analytical test methods and procedures to meet Quality Management System requirements. Knowledge & understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical environment. A practical understanding of a wide range of analytical methodologies. Knowledge and understanding of chemical hazards. Knowledge of environmental and health and safety legislation. Analytical with the ability to measure & monitor data and take appropriate action. Communicate at all levels, Verbally and written. A natural problem solver who always considers health and safety.
