Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary
- To fully understand and implement legislation including the Dogs (NI) Order 1983, the Dangerous Dogs Order, the Litter Order (NI) 1994, The Street Trading Regulation Act, relevant Company Bylaws and other relevant legislation in so far as it relates to the functions of the post.
To create, develop, deliver and review educational programmes and publicity materials in relation to all aspects of the functions of the post, aimed at schools, community groups and individual ratepayers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To ensure that the work falling within the Post-holders areas of responsibility is carried out
- To fully understand and implement all relevant legislation in so far as it relates to the functions of the post.
- To maintain records and compile reports on all relevant matters prevailing within the district,
- To investigate and seek resolution to complaints and enquiries from the public, and other

- To supervise monthly and special markets, including the on-site allocation of non prebooked trading pitches, the collection of fees, the issuing of receipts and the lodgement of

- To liaise with a veterinary clinic and authorise any emergency only pain relief treatment for any injured stray dogs.
- To develop and implement an education and information programme aimed at responsible dog ownership
- To support Community Groups by providing information, guidance and advice as required,
liaising with the USPCA, the Dogs Trust, Dept. of Ag. & Regional Development, PSNI, DoE,
NIHE and any other relevant bodies, while participating in operations in conjunction with
relevant bodies, e.g. alcohol patrols with the PSNI, which may involve evening work.
- To assist, as required, in the organisation and delivery of any enforcement related
- To ensure all administration is completed in relation to the functions of the post, such as the issuing of fixed penalty notices, warnings, gathering of evidence and preparation of
- To maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean and hygienic condition, according to COSHH.
- To ensure that Corporate policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
- To contribute to Corporate, Departmental and Regional working groups as required.
- To assist with the implementation of the companies Emergency Plan as required.
Essential Criteria:
- Grade C or above in at least 4 GCSEs or equivalent,
equivalent and one of which must be a GCSE in a

Responsible for implementing and enforcing of the relevant legislation relating to Dogs Order(NI)1983, Dangerous Dogs Order(NI)1991, Welfare of Animals NI Act 2011,The Clean Neighbourhood Act (MI)2011, Street Trading Act (NI and other relevant Council bye-Laws and relevant legislation, so far as it relateds to the post.
