Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust Full time
Building on your past experience as a Muslima chaplain working in mental health, are you enthusiastic and passionate about delivering good quality spiritual and pastoral care to people using mental health services?

We seek a female Muslim chaplain to work both with inpatients and community patients, as part of a large specialist chaplaincy team which provides religious, spiritual and pastoral care in a wide range of mental health & learning disability services.

It is desirable that you are an alimah.

You will have a particular responsibility for meeting the religious needs of female Muslim patients from all Islamic traditions both in inpatient/day care facilities and in service-users' own homes.

As part of the team you will be expected to offer chaplaincy provision to people of all faiths and none, and therefore you will have a good working knowledge of the theories underpinning pastoral, religious and spiritual care from both Islamic and non-Islamic perspectives.

This post is open to employees within Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust and External Applicants. Interviews will be held via video conferencing (Microsoft Teams), on the afternoon of 25th April 2024.

To work as a member of the chaplaincy team which seeks, in the context of the fields of mental health, learning disabilities and neurological disorders, to meet the spiritual, religious and pastoral needs of the trust's patients, carers and staff within a framework of user choice, appropriate to their culture and within resources available.

To work with service users, staff, volunteers and carers, their associated community-based services and faith communities.

You will provide religious care to Muslim inpatients (especially those who are female).

You will also undertake community work, working with patients referred to chaplaincy by the community mental health services of the Trust, but also offering advice to mosques and women's groups as to how they can support people in the community who are experiencing mental health difficulties.

Although clear in articulating the perspective of Muslims, as part of the team you will be expected to offer incidental chaplaincy provision to people of all faiths and none, and therefore you will have a good working knowledge of the theories underpinning pastoral, religious and spiritual care from both Islamic and non-Islamic perspectives.

You will have a knowledge of and demonstrable sensitivity towards people from diverse belief traditions.

There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement under the Equalities Act for this post to be held by a female Muslim.

We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future.

In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.

Informal enquiries welcomed by The Revd Dr Neil Cockling
