Job Purpose

Adult Community Learning (ACL) serves as ECC's platform for providing lifelong learning opportunities to the residents of Essex. By offering qualifications designed to facilitate progress in the workplace, enhance life skills, or enable skill development essential for career advancement, ACL caters to a diverse demographic. With a special focus on engaging with hard-to-reach communities in Essex, ACL offers a wide array of accredited and non-accredited courses promoting creativity, healthy living, social inclusivity, and community participation.

The ACL also houses a nursery/pre-school that is Ofsted registered and accessible to children from the community, irrespective of their parents' attendance at ACL. As an Assistant in this setting, you will collaborate with a team to foster a secure and nurturing environment aimed at nurturing the emotional, physical, social, and intellectual growth of children. Your role will entail maintaining the surroundings, resources, and experiences available to children and their families.

An essential requirement for this role is adept communication skills, enabling you to connect with and build relationships with both children and adults.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing varied indoor and outdoor play experiences, aligning with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and catering to individual children's needs.
  • Plan, lead, and evaluate a spectrum of activities for children while ensuring adherence to Health and Safety protocols.
  • Observe, assist, and enhance the personal and learning requirements of children to safeguard their well-being.
  • Collaborate with parents/carers and family members to address children's needs, monitor their progress, and track their development.
  • Ensure children's safety and possess the ability to take necessary steps to safeguard a child, including following Child Protection Procedures.
  • Demonstrate best practices concerning special needs and inclusion by observing, supporting, and extending children's learning.

*Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are established annually within the performance management framework.*

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Educated to RQF Level 2 (GCSE) in English and Maths with a qualification in Early Years Care and Education or equivalent vocational certification.
  • Capacity to enhance skills and knowledge within the role.
  • Prior experience in a childcare environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities allowing the establishment of rapport with children and adults.
  • Proficiency in planning and offering activities and play opportunities that support children's emotional, physical, social, and intellectual development.
