Your new role


As a Weld Apprentice based at our Newton Aycliffe site you will develop and refine your investigative and problem-solving abilities.

You will be part of the welding team and develop skills to support the weld and fabrication of car bodies.


Key role and responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the post will vary in accordance with the department within which you are placed.

The following responsibilities are indicative:

  • You need to be a highly motivated and selfdriven individual with a desire to progress a career within a technical environment.
  • Be able to operate on own initiative as well as be an effective team player.
  • To undertake tasks and duties as assigned by the line manager in order to learn and develop technical expertise and skills
  • To be proactive in progressing personal development, making best use of time on the scheme.
  • To learn about and comply with important aspects of Health & Safety

To develop skills to be able to:

  • Preparation of weld surfaces in readiness for welding
  • Carrying out welding activities in accordance with WPS and SOP's.
  • Support the safe movement of Car Body panels
  • Carry out weld finishing activities.
  • Understand distortion control
  • Carry out pre and post weld inspections
  • Understand full completion of and accountability for all weld records.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Participate in the formal apprenticeship scheme which will include attendance at College to obtain formal qualifications

  • An understanding of health and safety requirements of a working environment

The apprenticeship will last for 36 months, on successful completion a role may be found in the business once we know where your talents lie and you have demonstrated your capability.
