We have a unique opportunity for an experienced and motivated NMC registrant who is passionate about pre-registration education to join the team as a Peripatetic Practice Assessor.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality practice assessments for learners in the clinical setting contributing to high quality learning environments and will be required to work Trust wide within services where inter-professional learning opportunities are provided.

The post holder will also be required to work with placement teams to promote and implement the use of coaching models and clinical supervision for learners in practice.

The post holder will be required to support the breadth of the student experience, which may require cross boundary working.


The post holder will have experience working as a practice assessor and knowledge of the NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment The post holder will be passionate about providing a quality learning experience and be committed to developing the learning environments within the Trust.

The post holder will have good communication skills and up to date clinical skills. They will work collaboratively with students and the clinical teams to carry out robust assessments in practice.


The post holder will work under the direction of the PEF team and support clinical teams with assessment processes as required - this will involve trust-wide working.

Up to 56 hours available per week - part time/flexible working would be considered.

ROLE OF DEPARTMENT


The Practice Development function supports a wide range of learning and development opportunities in order to meet identified training and development needs of clinical staff.

Our focus is on ensuring the provision of high quality learning and development opportunities to support our staff to deliver outstanding patients care and maintain safe working practices.

Provision of high quality assessments for learners in practice, this will involve periodically working alongside learners in range of care settings and working collaboratively with practice teams to collate evidence for practice assessment

Provision of pastoral support and signposting

Assessing the quality of practice learning environments; escalating any concerns to the PEF team


Facilitating the development, and ensuring a sufficient provision of practice supervisors/ assessors across relevant service areas; providing supervision and support structures, building education in practice capability, consistency and efficiency.

Developing and maintaining links with Education Providers to practice supervisors. For example, contributing to curriculum development, validation and review, and the Annual Quality Review of the Education Contracts.

Support delivery of structured Interprofessional learning in practice for healthcare students, practice assessors and supervisors.

Assess the quality of learning environments against quality assurance standards, suggesting improvement measures to enhance the student learning experience.


Ensure early escalation complex issues relating to the student experience including the achievement of learning outcomes, competence and fitness for practice.

Plan and implement development resources to support the assessment processes for all healthcare students within the clinical setting.

Identify shortfalls in practice education within clinical teams and facilitate access to multi-professional educator programmes/ updates and training opportunities.


Provide best practice advice in a clinical setting for practice assessor/ supervisors and staff in relation to education in practice.

Network locally, regionally and nationally with peer group to support the sharing of best practice.

Develop the knowledge and skills to act as an expert resource/ champion of interprofessional learning in placement providers.

Communicate educational and practice information across placement providers and educational Institutions.

Ensure communication channels are used appropriately to facilitate the flow of information between internal and external partners.
