The Client
Our Client are a modular build Contractor working within residential, hotel, student accommodation and healthcare sectors. They are a leading UK supplier of off-site building solutions and a leading UK manufacturer.
Due to a newly acquired contract, they arelooking to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Birmingham.
The Role
Reporting to the Lead QS, you will be responsible for the project from pre-start phase, preparing estimates and cost plans along with managing all costs relating to the project from the initial calculations to the final figures.
Your key task will be to minimisethe costs of the project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality.
Duties
To manage a commercial team to deliver the commercial objectives of the business.
To develop strong customer relationships with Clients.
To take overall responsibility and accountability for the commercial elements on a project(s).
To take a keen interest in matters outside of merely just the commercial issues.
To assist the Lead QS with pre-start planning and programming
To manage the day-to-day cost control, monitoring and reporting
Preparing relevant tender and contract documents
Assisting in establishing the Client's requirements and undertaking feasibility studies
Performing risk and value management and cost control
Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks
Preparing and analysing costings for future tenders
Allocating work to subcontractors
Providing advice on contractual claims
Analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports
Valuing completed work and arranging payments
Take off and schedule material quantities from drawings
Scrutinising and monitoring costs to ensure best value and price to maximise profitability
Discussing & evaluating material costs and related issues
Negotiate with external suppliers to formulate rebate and annual agreements
Secure fixed price agreements for materials (especially bulk materials)
Profit and delivery maximisation and efficiency
Attend all project related meetings
Requirements:
Must have a minimum of 2 year's previous experience of working at Senior QS level
Must have a degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction management
Must have a proven track record of commercial responsibility on Modular Build projects
Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
Excellent numeracy skills & highly organised
