Job Summary

We are excited to present a great opportunity for a Senior Physiotherapist to become part of the Adult Learning Disability Service team. The team includes a Specialist Physiotherapist, a Senior Physiotherapist, and Physiotherapy Assistants.

The Physiotherapy team collaborates with the Community Specialist Health Team, working alongside Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Learning Disability Nurses, Psychologists, Behaviour Therapists, and Psychiatry.

This part-time position offers flexible working hours, open for discussion during the interview. Operating hours are Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

This role provides an exciting chance to work alongside fellow Physiotherapy professionals and contribute to the specialized clinical care offered by the team.

The service provides specialized training opportunities to support the post holders' professional development.

A valid driver's license is a requirement for this position.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide advice to health professionals, social services, and agencies as needed.
  • To supervise and educate Physiotherapy staff, Assistant Practitioners, and students.
  • To be part of the Learning Disability Service within the organization.
  • To assess, diagnose, and create care plans for clients with various conditions within the Learning Disability Service.
  • To analyze patient needs, conduct assessments, and provide advice on aids and equipment provision in alignment with other professionals.
  • To organize multidisciplinary meetings, care reviews, and maintain positive relationships with medical and nursing staff.
  • To communicate effectively with Acute Trusts staff in South Essex.
  • To serve as an information source for health professionals by guiding patients and carers in receiving appropriate care from general services.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • To manage a caseload as part of a Physiotherapy team, offering specialist assessments and treatments for community patients with learning disabilities.
  • To teach specialized assessment, analysis, and treatment skills to other physiotherapy staff and carers.
  • To enhance professional skills to advance treatments and services for individuals with Learning Disabilities.
  • To provide sound advice and represent the Physiotherapy team to other NHS professionals and agencies.
  • To take on responsibility in organizing the day-to-day operations of the department.
  • To assist in training activities for students, carers, and physiotherapy staff.

Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Health Care Professions Council State Registration
  • Current up-to-date CPD portfolio
  • Post-registration experience and training
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Knowledge

Essential

  • Advanced expertise in working with adults with a learning disability.

Skills/Experience

Essential

  • Experience in various clinical areas for a minimum of 18 months.
  • Working experience with individuals with LD.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good analytical and judgment skills.
  • Understanding of roles and expectations across disciplines.
  • Ability to supervise and support junior staff and students.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
