Hours of work:
Average of 371⁄2 hours between the times of 8.00am - 4:00pm Monday - Friday. Alternative Weekends Saturday & Sunday hours 7.00am - 3.00pm including Bank Holidays

ORGANISATIONAL AIMS:

  • To provide temporary hostel accommodation to homeless people
  • To develop a range of accommodation options and individual capacity building

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

To provide a quality Catering provision ensuring that all duties related to the production of food including cleaning, stock control, HACCP measures are carried out to the expected standard.

You will work in a psychologically informed way and ensuring every contact counts.

Main Duties

To provide a quality Catering provision ensuring that all duties related to the production of food including cleaning; stock control; and HACCP measures are carried out to the expected standard

Specific responsibilities:
a) To cook meals for service users and other customers as directed by daily menus.

Ensuring that all customers receive satisfactory meals on request during the allotted opening times and that all meals provided are of a high standard.

To keep healthy options and good nutrition in mind when cooking and preparing meals. To ensure that portion control is maintained and all wastage is kept to a minimum.

b) To ensure that the eating area is opened and closed at the allotted times, area is clean and tidy and correctly presented and that the menu is displayed on the board.

c) To be aware of and fully compliant with all Food Safety legislation maintaining a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness at all times.

To ensure that the kitchen and all equipment are left in a clean and tidy condition prior to completion of all duties.

To ensure that the stock room, refrigerators and freezers are kept in a clean and tidy condition throughout the shift.

d) To be responsible for the shift supervision in the absence of the Catering Manager and to stand in where possible for the other Cooks when they are not on duty. This will be essential in the case of sickness, holidays and staff training.

e) To be aware of all rules and regulations affecting the catering facilities and to ensure that they are complied with at all times.

f) To notify the Catering Manager of any breakages and of any faulty equipment prior to completion of duty. To notify the Catering Manager of any shortages in supplies in time to re-order if necessary.

2.
 **To carry out other duties that reasonably fall within the scope of the post:

- **a) Responding to emergencies / crisis.

b) Attendance at meetings deemed appropriate by the Catering Manager.

c) Participation in training and supervision.

d) Assisting with jobs that usually fall to another member of staff but in whose absence, failure to carry out the work would present a risk or offence to others or would be detrimental to the organisations' service provision.

e) You must work constructively with other departments within the YMCA Cardiff Group.

f) To adhere to and be aware of the associations policies and procedures, including GDPR, code of conduct, Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities.

g) To be able to respect the Christian ethos of the YMCA and uphold its values.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

To be qualified, or have proven training to a minimum of Level 2 in Food Preparation / Service and similarly in Food Safety.


DESIRABLE

EDUCATION
Relevant qualifications in Food Nutrition, health and safety, fire safety.

EXPERIENCE
Have experience of working in a commercial kitchen including the preparation, cooking and serving of meals

Have experience in cash handling, food/supplies ordering, stock control - stock rotation and deliveries and kitchen cleaning.

KNOWLEDGE
Understanding of Homelessness and housing problems.

Understanding of developing menus and Nutrition

SKILLS & ABILITIES
