As an Information Governance Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring NHS England complies with all relevant laws and regulations related to the collection, use, storage, management, publication, disclosure, and destruction of personal, patient, and corporate information.

Essential Experience and Skills:

Information Governance Experience:
Practical experience in an information governance, privacy, or data protection role, with a solid understanding of the basic principles and practices

nFast-Paced Environment:
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and high-performance environment, managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines

nDocument Preparation:
Experience in drafting key information governance documents, such as policies, procedures, data protection impact assessments, and privacy notices, and tailoring these documents to different audiences

nPractical IG Advice:
Capability to provide clear and practical information governance advice on various matters, including privacy by design

nEffective Communication:
Experience in communicating information governance issues to colleagues who may not be specialists in IG, and raising awareness across the organisation

nResearch Skills:
A bility to conduct research related to information governance to support the role

nTeam Collaboration:


Experience in working collaboratively within and across teams to achieve organisational goals, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and inclusive service delivery.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

Ethics:
Basic understanding of ethical issues related to data use and how they impact information governance practices

nAssurance:
Familiarity with information governance assurance processes within NHS organisations

nTechnical Understanding:
Basic knowledge of IT systems, information security principles, and risk management practices relevant to information governance

nHealth and Social Care Knowledge:
General understanding of the health and social care system in England, including the roles and responsibilities of various NHS organisations

nData Use:


Awareness of issues related to the use of NHS health data, including the implications for patients, healthcare providers, and researchers.


Qualifications:


Graduate-level qualification in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience in an information governance or related role.nPost-graduate qualification in a related discipline.nAccredited qualification in information governance (e.g., BCS, ISEB, PDP, IAPP).
