Little Hayes Nursery School has a long tradition of providing care, support and high quality nursery education based on strong principles and values that underpins all that we do.


We are looking for a School Administrator with excellent administrative and communication skills to join our friendly, passionate and committed admin team at Symington Road as soon as possible.

School Administrator/Receptionist (BG5)

£21,189 per annum, pro rata

33.5 hours per week, Term Time Only

Monday, Tues, Thurs & Fri 8.15am-3.30pm (includes 45 mins lunch break)

Wednesday 8.15am-4.30pm (includes 45 mins lunch break)

What will I be doing?


With good interpersonal and communication skills, you will be the welcoming face of the nursery and ensure that all children, families and visitors enter and leave the building safely.

The role involves mainly general office and administrative duties, but with some more technical aspects.

  • Using standard procedures for the collection and recording of money, preparing banking and paying of invoices using the Local Authority's finance system
  • Use spoken and written communications skills to respond to a range of written, telephone and 'face to face' enquiries from a variety of sources (internal and external)
  • Provide a timely and accurate word processing service to include policies, letters and newsletters.
  • Ensure Nursery website kept up to date

Data collection, entry and analysis, using appropriate software such as SIMS, spreadsheets and databases, with feedback to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on trends, patterns and anomalies.


  • Respond to a range of written, telephone and face to face enquiries from a variety of sources (internal and external) either directly or in more complex cases, by referral to an appropriate colleague to ensure satisfactory resolution.
  • Undertake general office duties to include: opening, sorting and distribution of post, filing, photocopying, monitoring/ordering of stationery and other resources as required, maintaining office diary, deliveries are checked against orders, purchase order and invoice processing, taking and distributing minutes, cash handling and banking, collection and reconciliation, lunch orders/reconciliation, maintaining petty cash and school funds
  • Ensure Nursery website and social media is up to date

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

Knowledge & Experience


Competence in accurate English and Mathematics, shown by capability to achieve Maths and English at GCSE grade C equivalent or equivalent qualification.

Administration qualification at level 2 or a willingness to attend and gain this qualification and or an equivalent.

At least 1 year experience of working in an administrative capacity

Experience of maintaining and manipulating computerised and/or paper based data/information.

Able to demonstrate knowledge and/or experience of equalities and diversity issues.

Abilities & Aptitudes
Ability to organise, prioritise tasks and manage time effectively to ensure work objectives and deadlines are met.

Use accurate spoken and written English skills to communicate with adults and children in an appropriate manner

Ability to file and retrieve information accurately

Ability and willingness to work both independently and co-operatively as part of a team.

Ability to handle both written and verbal communication securely and confidentially

Ability to converse with parents/visitors and provide information in accurate spoken English, or through an interpreter.

Requirement - DESIRABLE
Experience of any of the following: ordering goods and supplies/invoices, sickness/absence records and databases

Knowledge of school administration systems including SIMS, RM Integris.

Experience of working in a service orientated environment

Knowledge and experience of maintaining websites and/or social media platforms
