A Glimpse into Your Role
At Amazon, safety, well-being, and health take top priority. Our goal is to lead the industry by setting high standards through innovation, continuous education, and enhancement. We are committed to establishing and enhancing safe working practices and procedures across our network. As a Safety Technician Apprentice, you will have the opportunity to acquire valuable experiences and skills. You will work towards achieving the Level 3 Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) technician standard along with obtaining TechIOSH accreditation.
In this role, you will be stationed at one of our operational warehouses in the UK, managing millions of inventory items processed and shipped worldwide. Operating in a bustling warehouse environment, you may be scheduled to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.

Over a 20-month period commencing in June 2024, you will enhance your skills, both personally and professionally. Your apprenticeship journey will encompass:

  • Classroom/virtual training sessions covering the academic aspects of the apprenticeship standard, delivered by our expert apprenticeship training partner through a blended learning approach.
  • Practical training within your Amazon workplace.
  • Self-paced online learning and portfolio development.
  • Reflective learning logs to showcase your grasp of tasks or modules.
  • Mentoring by Amazon's safety professionals.
  • Engaging sessions with guest speakers sharing insights in various Safety domains.
You will participate in several 1.1 sessions with a dedicated tutor from the apprenticeship training provider throughout the program, alongside a series of online workshops featuring guest speakers for interactive Q&A sessions.

Throughout the apprenticeship tenure, you will delve into modules such as, but not limited to:
  • SHE legislation, Techniques, and Practices
  • Code of Ethics
  • Risk Evaluation
  • Incident Analysis
You will collaborate with the core safety team, assisting in daily tasks to understand Amazon's safety protocols and customer service delivery. As you refine your expertise, knowledge, and behaviors, you will play a crucial role within the team, ensuring the highest level of service to our internal and external clients while upholding safety practices consistently.

The hands-on experience and learning exposure will enable you to compile a compelling evidence portfolio for your apprenticeship standard. Amidst your studies, you will have dedicated time to concentrate on your coursework, ensuring steady progress towards qualifying. In addition to advancing your technical competencies, you will sharpen essential skills in areas like organization, prioritization, data analytics, problem-solving techniques, teamwork, communication, and presentation aptitude.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be eligible to apply for permanent positions within Amazon's Safety division across the UK, with potential flexibility in work locations.

About the Team
Amazon offers an ideal starting point for budding Safety professionals. Safety apprentices can engage in various business functions to contribute to the safe and successful execution of projects, spanning from minor to large-scale endeavors, including loss prevention, HR, and Operations Management.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONSTo be eligible for this apprenticeship program, candidates must meet the following criteria for government funding:
  • Resided in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the past three years.
  • Continuous residency in the country throughout the program's duration.
  • Not enrolled in a UK government-funded course ending on or after May 31, 2024.
  • Attained a minimum of 3 GCSEs, including Mathematics and English.
  • Demonstrate a positive learning attitude with a willingness to acquire new skills.
  • Proficient in written and verbal English, capable of engaging with all levels of the organization comfortably.
  • Ability to adhere to safety guidelines and instructions while meeting deadlines consistently.
Note: Verification of qualifications will be required. If qualifications were obtained outside the UK, a Statement of Comparability must be provided to confirm their equivalence.

Amazon operates around the clock, necessitating flexibility in working hours and shifts to meet operational demands. The role may entail weekend and/or night shifts.

  • Skilled in navigating complex and fast-paced operational environments.
  • Display a strong passion for apprenticeships and continuous learning.
The recruitment process kicks off with an online application submission, requiring an updated CV and responses to queries related to the basic qualifications outlined above. Following an initial review, candidates will proceed to online assessments. Adequate preparation is necessary, requiring access to a laptop, tablet, or smartphone for these tests. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in a virtual assessment center, involving various components, including an interview with an Amazon Safety team member.
