What will you be doing?

We are looking for a Lawyer specialising in litigation to join our in-house legal team. The role will require you to undertake a varied caseload of legal work including the provision of advice and assistance at a senior level. You will also be required to advise Members and officers, and undertake all contentious proceedings where appropriate, specifically civil, criminal and to occasionally attend Licensing Committees so as to advise members and officers.

The team handles all aspects of local authority litigation work including environmental prosecutions, housing possessions, housing advice, health and safety matters, judicial review, planning enforcement cases, debt recovery, licensing appeals and injunctions.

It is desirable, but not essential, that you have local government experience, however, training and support would be offered as part of your continuous professional development.

About you

You will:

  • Hold a relevant degree and be a qualified CILEX, Solicitor or Barrister, licensed to practice.
  • Effectively and appropriately provide and communicate legal advice commensurate to experience to Members, Officers and other stakeholders generally and at committee meetings.
  • Have experience in at least two areas of the following work:
  • Prosecutions
  • Debt recovery including Adult Social Care
  • Education and SEN
  • Licensing
