As our
Head of Learner Support,
you
will lead across all types of support across the college.

To include SEND, ALS, maths, and English, which assesses and meets the needs of learners, including learners with a wide range of Learning Difficulties and Disabilities, Dyslexia, and sensory impairments across Hull College.


The post holder will manage and develop teams of professional practitioners, responsible for cross college support delivered in various ways through a range of settings.

Ensure records and audit trails are clear, support for students is highly effective and represent the college at Audit, Inspection or other external engagement events as directed by the senior team.

Responsibilities of our
Head of Learner Support:

  • Responsible for assessment arrangements, planning, implementing, and monitoring additional learning support for all learners with an identified need.
  • Ensure that SEN learners are supported to achieve to achieve in line with their nonSEN peers.
  • Ensure that all ALS support is of a high standard
  • Ensure that the additional learning support team is operating successfully, prioritises compliance and is well prepared for inspections and audits.
  • Work with the Learning Centres and digital transformation team to support and facilitate learners including the development of study support activities, extension tasks and accessibility.
  • Ensure that all monitoring and recording tools are used fully and effectively to estimate and expenditure and tracking actual expenditure.
  • Report on key KPIs to the senior team in a timely way
  • Manage the deployment, training and effectiveness of the learning support teams.
  • Develop learning support across all provision types and support needs, including 1416, apprentices, FE and HE.
  • Contribute to the colleges work across Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding.
  • Liaise with the Admissions team regarding potential applicants with ALS needs and interviewing applicants where appropriate. Ensuring we have the right information to create a successful experience for the learner and advising if meeting needs could be a challenge.
  • Liaise with school SENCOs and other agencies to ensure smooth transition.
  • Manage the process of admissions, enrolment, and induction for identified students.
  • Manage the identification process of additional student learning and support needs during enrolment and induction.
  • Support ALS students who are identified after enrolment and induction
  • Represent the College at public events, including open evenings and parents' evenings as appropriate.
  • Promote the Disabled Students' Allowance and work in close liaison with The Disability Officer for Higher Education.
  • Manage the Learner disclosure processes and estimate the costs of matching support needs to learner assessment.

What we're looking for in our
Head of Learner Support:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Qualified SENCO.
  • A minimum of GCSE English and mathematics at Grade C or above.
  • High level safeguarding training.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development that includes specialisation in FE/ HE / Apps / 1416 learner services setting.
