Principal Engineer [E&P] at Network Rail

The Principal Engineer [E&P] will take on the role of Lead Discipline Engineer (E&P) serving as the functional lead for E&P across the TRU Enterprise covering OLE, HV, and LV disciplines. You will report to the Senior Programme Engineering Manager along with Principal Engineers for other disciplines as part of the Chief Engineers team, providing support and technical guidance to delivery teams.

Strategic direction and technical leadership on all E&P activities within the Transpennine Route Upgrade will be your main focus. Ensuring activities are conducted safely, cost-effectively, and in line with client requirements, business standards, and relevant legislation.

The successful candidate must have expertise in E&P (OLE, HV, and LV) work, especially in electrification. Collaboration with Network Rail Route and TRU delivery teams is crucial to drive innovation, efficiency, resolve key risk issues, and capitalize on opportunities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Act as the E&P functional leader for the programme
  • Facilitate programme-wide lessons learned, best practices, innovation sharing, and efficiency
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders and delivery leads
  • Lead the technical development of standards, specifications, and non-compliance applications
  • Conduct technical briefings, competency management, and incident investigations
  • Support career development and accident investigations
  • Influence strategy within the discipline and respond to changes in requirements
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and represent TRU externally
  • Support competency frameworks, training needs, and business processes

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate should possess experience leading electrification projects, excel in team collaboration and stakeholder management, and have industry insight to address challenges and opportunities. Strategic thinking and the ability to adapt to changing priorities are essential.

Requirements:

  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent experience (Level 7)
  • Knowledge of policies, standards, and legislation
  • Experience in technology development and safety management

Advantages:

  • Experience in railway infrastructure management or safety critical environments

Package Description:

Salary: £85,395 to £96,070 per annum

Car Allowance: £6,000 per annum

Location: Base location can vary within Manchester and York with travel expectations

Contract Type: Full-time, permanent

Office Requirement: Minimum 3 days per week in a TRU office

Interview Schedule: Competency-based interviews scheduled for June 18th and June 19th, 2024
