Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Urology. The holder of this post would provide a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services in Urology. A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected. It is also essential to have an annual appraisal. An interest in research and teaching is expected with participation in projects, courses, etc to enhance the standing and role of the Department and Trust.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will offer high quality day to day care of patients and deliver a first-class clinical service to include outpatient/diagnostic clinics, day case theatre procedures, elective theatre activity, inpatient care as required and support for on call work with acute Urological admissions.

Job Purpose: The specialty doctor will provide expertise in Urology delivering care and treatment, being able to manage a wide range of Urology patients.

Clinical Duties: The holder of this post would provide a diagnostic and treatment

in Urology. They would undertake independent clinics and diagnostic sessions to assess a wide range of Urologypatients and work with the surgical clinicians, clinic staff and theatre practitioners to provide care and treatment for the patients referred to Worcester Acute Hospitals. The job holder will participate in the middle grade on call rota. A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected. It is also essential to have an annual appraisal. An interest in research and teaching is expected with participation in projects, courses, etc. to enhance the standing and role of the Department and Trust.

Key Duties:

provide a service to patients of theWorcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners be an active member of themulti-disciplinary team in providing high quality clinical care. It isanticipated work will be undertaken on three sites and closer to the patientshome. The Trust is seeking to extend services to GP surgeries/health centres etcand job plans may be revised in due course. beresponsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients in their chargeand personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan,allowing for all proper delegation to and training of their staff. providesupport to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timelyappropriate care and patient flow through the hospital. provideconsultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust andPrimary Care. attendmulti-disciplinary meetings, which may be cross county and cross site. collaborate with colleagues to deliver ahigh quality, timely service and to work towards meeting the Trusts anddepartmental objectives. provide professional supervision, training andmanagement of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, assessment andaccreditation duties as required and contributing to postgraduate and CPDactivity locally and nationally as appropriate. participate in the middle grade on callrota to ensure that both emergency and urgent services are provided out ofnormal hours, to be shared equally with colleagues in post. whilst undertaking non-resident on-callduties, attend the hospital site to review patients when clinically necessary.The Specialty doctor on call must be prepared to attend willingly wheneverrequested to do so by a member of their medical and nursing team. participate in clinical audit as part of qualityimprovement activity under local arrangements commit to taking part in annual appraisal process whichwill be undertaken by a trust approved appraiser be responsible for compliance with personal continuingprofessional development requirements with the support of the Trust. Qualifications

Essential

Eligible for full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise at the time of appointment. MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable

Higher degree. Membership examination with the relevant UK Royal College.

Research Experience

Essential

Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems. An awareness of current specialty specific developments and initiative.

Desirable

Publications in relevant peer- reviewed journals in the last 5 years. Evidence of having undertaken original research.

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential

Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively. Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities. Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit.

Desirable

Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making. Undertaken training in management and/or team working.

Teaching Experience

Essential

Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines. Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.

Desirable

Ability to supervise postgraduate research.

Other requirements

Essential

An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues. Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when undertaking non-resident on call duties.

Experience

Essential

At least four years full-time or equivalent postgraduate training, at least two of which will be in the relevant specialty training programme, or as a FTSTA. Or equivalent experience and competencies of this specialist training. Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients. Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable

Previous experience working in the NHS within the specialty. Able to perform LATP independently. Able to be first Robotic assistant.
