The role

The School of Geographical Sciences is seeking to appoint a one-year fixed-term Pathway 3 (Education and Scholarship) Lecturer in the area of States, Economies and Societies. The main purpose of this post is to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in this area through the academic year.

What will you be doing?

The specific teaching responsibilities of this post will be to deliver:

65% of the postgraduate unit Global Development and Environment: History, Theory, Practice, as unit convenor.25% of the Year 1 undergraduate unit Key Concepts in Human Geography, with responsibility for the Cities and Societies theme.35% of the postgraduate unit Sustainability, Risk, and Resilience in the Urban Age.

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and marking undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, delivering personal tutorials for undergraduate or postgraduate students, and carrying out moderation and plagiarism checking duties. The expectation is that the successful candidate will take part in one undergraduate fieldtrip. Finally, the successful candidate may be asked to carry out cover for other minor teaching activities, as appropriate

You should apply if

You hold, or are nearing completion of, a PhD in a subject area relevant to the post.

You have experience of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate settings, for example tutorials, seminars, workshops, lectures, fieldtrips, project supervision

You have the subject-knowledge and experience to prepare high-quality teaching materials on contemporary debates and issues regarding urbanisation, environment, sustainability and development
