The Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies works across a range of disciplines including education, childhood and youth, health and social care, youth work, social work, languages and applied linguistics, nursing, and sport and fitness; organised as three schools. We work proactively, taking an innovative approach to teaching and learning; develop collaborative and effective partnerships with employers and other institutions; and engage in cutting edge, action oriented and internationally recognised research.

The role

The Open University is recruiting a Faculty Assistant (EDI and APS).

This is an exciting opportunity to provide administrative and secretarial support for the Faculty's Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) and Access, Participation & Success (APS) portfolio. Our work is designed to support the Faculty's implementation of staff EDI initiatives and student APS initiatives. Our vision statement is that "authentic, sustainable structures of equity are rooted into who we are and what we do, enabling students and staff to thrive and achieve to the best of their abilities". We are looking for a motivated, driven, organised, and passionate individual to help us achieve our vision.

Skills and experience

  • Good level of general education (GCSE/O' level equivalent) to include English and Maths at grade C and above or equivalent.
  • Experience of working effectively and co-operatively in a team to achieve organisational goals.
  • Extensive experience of office administration including organising meetings, taking notes/minutes, planning and organising one's own work.
  • Ability to use absolute discretion, initiative and personal judgement for dealing with sensitive and confidential matters and for problem solving.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Good written and oral communication skills including active listening skills and experience of using a variety of communication methods.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and deal with multiple tasks in parallel, switch between tasks, sometimes at short notice, and share knowledge appropriately.
  • Confident and highly proficient user of IT including use of Microsoft applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
