We are looking for a
Finance Manager to join the Commercial Accounting team working on a hybrid basis with part of the week in the amazing Hatfield Head offices and part working from home

The
F

inance Manager**(FM) is responsible for overseeing the activities of the Commercial Accounting teams with the support of the Senior Finance Accountants (SFAs). You will lead a team of 7 which includes 2x Senior Finance Accountants (SFA), each SFA is responsible for a sub-team comprising a number of Finance Accountants (FA), Assistant Finance Accountants (AFA) and Graduates.

Your responsibilities include delivering period-end for nominated mission areas and ensuring the production of accurate and timely financial information. This includes P&L production, Balance sheet reviews and providing MI packs.


Collaborating with the Commercial Finance teams to ensure accuracy of financials and Supporting in half year and year-end accounting and audits.

You will be ensuring the teams adhere to group policies & practices; Identify areas for continuous improvements and support in delivering approved initiatives and be a point of escalation, review and approval for the team under their responsibility.


What else will you be doing?

  • Building and developing a high performing and engaged best in class team, creating a culture of excellence
  • Leading the team to undertake ongoing and monthly accounting and monthend close activities including: processing journal entries/allocations and the preparation of key reporting on the group's financial performance to the periodend close timelines
  • Substantiating account/general ledger balances and providing first level commentary and playing a leading role in the year end process and that audit requests are dealt with swiftly
  • Ensuring the team adheres to group accounting policies (set by the inhouse technical team) and IFRS, converting from local accounting practices (e.g. US GAAP) where appropriate
  • Continuously reviewing and ensuring the team is set up for success and that they build excellent relationships with finance business partners and other areas of finance to quickly resolve variances and issues in order to meet reporting/timing requirements
  • Providing oversight; understand variances and proactively identify problems and opportunities to standardise, streamline and improve processes and accuracy
  • Closely partnering with the commercial finance team, including providing first level commentary on key movements to aid business decision making
  • Provision of accurate numbers for all disclosures in the annual report and statutory accounts. Support the global process owner for record to report processes by driving process efficiency, effectiveness and compliance
  • Seeking continuous improvement and constantly challenge the team to improve standards; Driving the professionalisation of Ocado reporting and raising the bar on quality
  • Supporting internal control and audit processes and the safeguarding of Ocado assets. Embedding a culture of controls within the team, responsible for operating effectiveness of all key controls within the department's processes and remediation of any control weaknesses
  • Championing Ocado's values and supporting personal development of team members, ensuring the team is set up for success going into Half Year and Year End, ensuring all audit requests are dealt with appropriately and swiftly.

About you.

  • Relevant fully completed financial qualifications (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent and good understanding of relevant regulatory environments
  • Good understanding of core financial processes and relevant systems and knowledge of accounting and reporting standards & principles
  • Experience in a fastpaced similar sized environment
  • Team management experience (required Ability to balance multiple competing priorities)
  • Experience in process improvement, automation (preferred)
  • Effective management of stakeholders (expectations) and possesses the ability to build trusted relationships
  • Ability to constructively challenge ways of working and foster improvements to drive efficiency and have a mindset of owning and driving personal development plans
  • Support others to develop; improve their technical & soft skills and their understanding of the business; Ability to build and produce effective analysis & insight to support decision making and play an active role in change
