The role of the post holder will be to ensure engagement and support of people affected by short and long term mental health ill health, who will report directly to Vale of Clwyd Mind Outreach Manager to continue the development of the support groups and allotment projects covering South Denbighshire.


Responsible to, and under the direction of the Vale of Clwyd Mind Community Services Manager, the post holder will be required to support people affected by mental health problems on their journey to recovery.


General Activities

  • Helping members to identify their strengths, set goals and work towards achieving their potential through a range of activities including creative therapies, walking groups, allotment projects, support groups. This will include access to training, volunteering and other opportunities within or external to Vale of Clwyd Mind
  • To support members to attend Support Groups and Allotment Projects
  • To work jointly with the other post holders (paid and unpaid) in the Organisation to achieve these aims
  • Be responsible for the day to day running of the support groups and organise the diary of activities.
  • Support and help organise the diary of activities for the allotment plots
  • Help members to decide on and grow appropriate produce of their choice
  • To encourage people who have become socially isolated as a result of their illness to socialise with others in a safe, friendly and nonjudgemental environment
  • To provide cover to other paid staff and volunteers in their absence and to work alongside and to ensure adequate cover is provided at all group and allotment activities, which may include Corwen, Denbigh, Llangollen, Ruthin and St Asaph Groups/ Allotment Sites

Community Involvement

  • Willingness to undertake work in various locations to ensure services can be run smoothly throughout the organisation. This may include attendance at community events where the organisation wishes to have a presence
  • Identify and link members with existing community initiatives
  • To attend Outreach and community events (DORIS)
  • Explore the possibility of intergenerational support older members sharing practical skills and experiences with younger members

Administration

  • Provide reports, information and photographs on progress of the groups and allotment projects, reporting this information to the Community Services Manager on a monthly basis.
  • To assist in the smooth running of the services and to undertake a fair share of its routine administrative and domestic duties
  • To undertake administrative duties associated with these activities and to keep appropriate records to monitor and evaluate and to support manager with reports
  • Work with Vale of Clwyd Mind's Policies and procedures at all times
  • Undertake training as required to effectively and competently carry out the duties required of the post
  • Any other work that the Manager may allocate to the post holder commensurate within the parameters of the post.

Further information:

  • The hours of work are 18 per week; these may include weekend work. Overtime is not paid but time off in lieu will be granted if employees work beyond their allocated weekly hours.
  • An Enhanced Disclosures and Barring Service check and an Occupational Health check are a requirement of the post. These will be arranged by Vale of Clwyd Mind upon appointment
  • It would be expected the post holder to have a full clean driving licence and use of their own vehicle.

Essential requirements

  • Good general standard of education
  • Post holder will be required to write monthly reports, develop monitoring records and evaluate.
  • Keep records as required
  • Caring, flexible and dynamic personality who values diversity
  • Flexible and able to work as part of a team
  • Understanding and experience of mental health and physical disabilities that affect wellbeing
  • Knowledge of rural issues
  • Horticultural or gardening skills and experience
  • Effective communicator who can encourage people to get involved
  • Able to deal with difficult conversations and dealing with distressed people face to face occasionally.
  • Basic understanding of Health and Safety and Risk Assessments
  • Excellent IT skills and an ability to keep records, collate information and provide reports
  • Driver of own car

Desirable Requirements

  • Direct or indirect experience of mental health services
  • Experience of working with socially excluded groups
  • Experience in running and facilitating groups
  • Welsh speaker
