As a member of the Finance Team, you will play a key part in delivering the financial strategy of the Council to ensure long term financial sustainability.

Being part of the team helping to develop the Council's strategic financial framework, linking theWirral Plan, the medium-term financial plan and service plans together to deliver a financially viable model of service delivery for the Council.


Your new role


As Insurance Manager, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining a framework and processes for managing risk and opportunity.

You will also determine the Council's strategic approach to risk financing (Insurance), including the minimising of premiumsand claim costs.

You will also have a key leadership role as you manage and develop a team which administers insurance procurement, claims handling and advice.


Your key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Providing professional and timely advice on all insurance related issues across the Council
  • Tendering for the Council's external insurance policies in accordance with procurement rules and best practice,
  • Undertaking the annual renewal negotiations and examining policy documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Reviewing and implementing changes to the insurance programme considering current market trends, new developments and best practice to achieve best value.
  • Line management responsibilities for the insurance team
  • Managing the insurance budget which includes externally insured and selfinsured risks

What you will need to Succeed


You should have a relevant insurance or risk management qualification and desirably a goodunderstanding of the current public sector insurance market based upon practical experience and continued professional development.


Your personal skills should include a proactive approach and willingness to build effective relationships with customers, other departmental teams and key stakeholders across the organisation.
