About MenWalkTalk


MenWalkTalk is a registered charity in England which aims to support an improvement of mental health in men of all ages by engaging in a walking group which is proven to be beneficial to their mental and physical wellbeing.

The Stigma around Men's mental health needs to be broken.


MenWalkTalk also aims to reduce social isolation for men and provide signposting to specialist support for those who may be experiencing mental health problems.

We want to provide volunteer
- led walking groups in every county across England and then the UK. Our volunteers have mental health first aid training as a minimum and their aims are to discuss mental health within their walking groups, in a caring, supportive, and non-judgemental manner. We currently have 20 walk
- leaders and 5 campaigners, all of which are volunteers.

Job Description - about the role


We are seeking to hire a self-motivated and energetic Volunteer Coordinator to work with the charity team and to support the activities of the organisation.

This is one of the most important roles within MenWalkTalk. You'll be overseeing and supporting


MenWalkTalk's volunteers around the country, ensuring that they have what they need to lead their walks and share the offer in and around the area they live in.


  • Lead and manage the volunteers of MenWalkTalk, overseeing the recruitment, training, and ongoing support of volunteers to effectively contribute to MenWalkTalk's mission.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage and retain volunteers, ensuring a positive and rewarding volunteer experience.
  • Collaborate with the team to design and deliver a comprehensive volunteer program, equipping volunteers with the necessary knowledge and skills to support MenWalkTalk's initiatives.

Key responsibilities:

Volunteer Management

  • Support and empower MenWalkTalk's volunteer Walk-Leaders and Campaigners across the
UK, ensuring they deliver high-quality support to men by providing guidance, resources, and ongoing assistance.

  • Develop and implement an annual support plan, exploring innovative approaches to expand
MenWalkTalk's reach, and conduct regular catch-up calls to maintain effective communication.

  • Adhere to MenWalkTalk's Recruitment Policy by recruiting volunteers, conducting reference checks, and ensuring timely completion of DBS checks.
  • Utilise social media platforms and deliver engaging presentations to attract potential volunteers, while maintaining MenWalkTalk's brand and reputation.
  • Ensure adequate coverage and efficient management of volunteer resources to maintain service continuity.
  • Provide support to volunteers through checkin supervision groups and offer individual guidance by signposting appropriate resources when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records in the volunteer database and volunteer management system.
  • Ensure volunteers receive fair and timely reimbursement for travel and other expenses owed.
  • Design and deliver an annual training and support plan, addressing topics that come up for our volunteer team.
  • Develop and regularly update MenWalkTalk's online information pages to support the work of the volunteer walkleaders (e.g. updating calendars and events pages).
  • When needed, facilitate online meetups for MenWalkTalk beneficiaries.

General Responsibilities

  • To understand, adhere to and actively implement all the policies and procedures of
MenWalkTalk and its services at all times.

  • To operate and comply with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 and relevant
MenWalkTalk policies during the course of undertaking the role.

  • To undertake training as required.
  • Assist with other work, events and projects as needed.
  • To undertake additional tasks reasonably requested by the CEO and the charity team.
  • Take all opportunities to promote the work of the charity in order to continually build our network of supporters.

Guidance and support to the Chief Executive

  • Liaise with the CEO regularly.
  • Liaise with Event Organisers to coordinate any external/charity appointments, the CEO's attendance at such events and the detailed planning of special events.
  • Keep the Board of Operations and Trustees appraised with Volunteer's needs and experiences, contributing to external reports when required.
  • Attend occasional events and exhibitions as requested by the CEO to represent the charity.
