You will be working with multi-disciplinary teams across the NHS landscape, in order to ensure that appropriate care is provided for patients.


Training will be undertaken at Higher Education Level 7 as a Trainee Specialist Practitioner over a minimum of 2 years.

Some study will be required in your own time.


This position requires trainee specialist practitioners to work across frontline and collaborative projects both internal and external to the Trust.

It is a diverse role and as a trainee there will be academic study required alongside frontline and collaborative work.

The specialist will be responsible for the care of the patient including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, discharge and/or referral.

The specialist will be responsible for administering and supplying medicines, in line with Patient Group Directions.

You will be expected to demonstrate evidence of taking personal responsibility for your own professional development, clinical leadership in an operational pre-hospital environment and have a strong desire to support and guide colleagues in other clinical roles.

Applicants should be able to display sound clinical knowledge, including evidence of history taking and clinical triage in a sensitive manner, providing assessment, advice and treatment in line with clinical protocols and using professional judgement, and to show that they can work as part of a team or autonomously.

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of emergency, urgent care and non-emergency healthcare services, along with commercial logistics services.


The Trust delivers most of these services to the populations of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire as well as non-emergency patient transport services in Surrey and Sussex.

To continue to practice operationally in line with the Job Description of a
Paramedic or Ambulance Nurse (dependent on previous role) when not
undertaking Specialist Paramedic/Nurse placements, prior to agreed
competency sign offs to undertake specialist skills unsupervised.

To engage and progress with the planned placements and programme of
education at an associated Higher Education Institution (HEI) or education centre as required.


Willingness to participate in and undertake collaborative rotational working partnerships within the wider health care system - urgent care, primary care, community care.

Willingness to undertake rotational working within other departments in the Trust - CCC/UCD and CCC/remote 111 clinical advisor.

Ensure that the appropriate manager is keep informed of progression &
results, bringing items of concern or difficulty to the attention of the line
manager in a timely manner.

Undertake advanced patient assessment, treatments and discharge in line
with appropriate guidelines under the supervision and direction of an
appropriate Mentor during clinical placements.

Maintain factual and accurate records, under direct supervision by an
appropriate Mentor during clinical placements, as required by the Trust or hosting organisation.

To be of a smart appearance at all times incorporating appropriate
SCAS/HEI/Placement regulations to the wearing of uniform.

To work with patients, educators, colleagues and mentors in a professional, calm and caring manner.
