Yard Assistant**
ANNUAL SALARY £15,232 to £21,190 (Age Dependent)

Full-Time 39hrs per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Bishop Burton College Equine Centre.

The Centre is one of the largest in the country and hosts a range of prestigious competitions and events throughout the year.


The department is seeking to employ an individual who will enjoy the variety and challenges that working within such a vibrant and varied environment creates.

You will be responsible for the care, welfare and development of the college horses.

In addition you will be involved in the organisation and delivery of events and activities in the yard to include:

  • British Horse Society (BHS) Exams
  • Competitions
  • Demonstrations
  • Clinics
  • Student Practical Duties
You will be encouraged and supported to train for further Equine qualifications. There is also the opportunity to develop and compete the colleges team of horses.

This role would be a wonderful platform for someone wishing to further their career in the equine industry.

Weekend and evening work is necessary for this role and is shared across the team.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:


To be part of the Equestrian Centre team that provides teaching, learning and assessment resources for a range of equine students as well as delivering a commercial equine event calendar comprising local, regional, national and international events.


Bishop Burton College includes the Riseholme College campus and the postholder may be required to carry out duties at both campuses.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to the effective day to day operations of the Equestrian Centre.
  • Guide, motivate, assess and supervise students on routines and maintain records associated with this
  • Be part of the team that delivers the extensive and varied calendar of equine competitions and events throughout the year.
  • Contribute to the maintenance, safety, presentation and effective organisation (including horse health and welfare) of the yard to commercial standards.
  • Carry out the role in accordance with all legislation and College procedures and policies with special regard for health and safety and safeguarding.
  • Provide high quality instruction for student groups and commercial clients.
  • Actively promote the College, its Equestrian activities, such as Bishop Burton Horse Trials, Competitions and Open Days.
  • Assist with the training and ridden development of College horses.
  • Keep up to date with changes in equine industry best practice and suggest how they can be implemented into the Department's way of working.
  • Take part in all cross College events.

BHS Stage 2 Foundation Coach in Complete Horsemanship or equivalent (Achieved or willing to obtain) - Essential
