THERAPY AREA HEAD – GENERAL MEDICINE

What you will do

In this vital role you will lead the Therapeutic Area (TA) for all medical activities, inspire the medical team and drive the development and execution of TA medical strategies of in-line and pipeline products.

Responsibilities:

  • Development and execution of TA medical strategies including annual strategic planning and goal setting, launch preparation and lifecycle management, in collaboration with appropriate cross-functional teams
  • Strategic oversight of LCM across portfolio, including required cross functional collaboration.
  • Set the strategy for scientific engagement across a broad range of stakeholders to strengthen external understanding of the unmet need and value of the product(s) and asset(s)
  • Ensure that medical insights across the TA are used to inform all evidence, product development, and brand/ franchise strategy deliverables
  • Line management of medical advisors, sci comms or MSLs within the therapy area
  • Serve as a senior member of BU LT shaping TA strategy and priorities
  • Shape a positive, motivating workplace culture and cross functional working across TA and BU
  • Own specific KOL relationships
  • Country brand ambassador to Global TA teams
  • Foster Amgen's reputation as a science-based, innovative and patient-focused reliable partner

You will work within our UK and Ireland affiliate Medical Business Unit heading up the General Medicine TA, having matrix relations with Commercial and Value and Access colleagues within the UK and Ireland affiliate as well as our EU Hub.

  • Medical degree and full GMC registration
  • Broad commercial literacy and analytical skills. Deep understanding of brand strategies and deep knowledge of relevant Amgen assets, disease state and medical specialities
  • Deep awareness of objectives, goals, challenges and financial constraints as well as an understanding of the need to measure performance and adopt a continuous improvement mentality
  • Pharmaceutical product development, product lifecycle and commercialisation process knowledge with advanced understanding of other functions; including Global Development, Commercial, Safety and Regulatory
  • Solid understanding national & regional healthcare system, policies, reimbursement & strategies.
  • Deep understanding of own & competitor marketplace, customers, products & TAs.
  • Deep and broad understanding of evidence generation process
  • Skilled at engagement, scientific exchange with external medical community
  • Extensive people leadership
  • Proven experience as a final ABPI signatory
