Salary

Research Assistant:
£29,619 to £31,411 per annum

Research Associate:
£32,348 per annum

The Role


This position is for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to be based in the Newcastle Cancer Centre Pharmacology Group at the Newcastle University Centre for Cancer and Transplantation and Clinical Research Institute.


You will have a background in pharmacokinetics and some experience in population pharmacokinetic modelling or experience in relevant complementary mathematical modelling.

You will work in collaboration with a diagnostic healthcare SME on a project focusing on the development of a precision dosing software for optimising chemotherapy in childhood cancer.

The work will be part of a wider project recently funded through a prestigious Innovate UK Biomedical Catalyst grant.


As part of our commitment to career development for research staff, the University has developed 3 levels of research role profiles.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analysis of pharmacokinetic data collected during clinical trials
  • Development of population pharmacokinetic models
  • Simulation of plasma concentration data using population pharmacokinetic models
  • Implementation of precision dosing strategies within population pharmacokinetic models
  • Independent planning and communication of experimental strategies
  • Independent analysis and interpretation of experimental data
  • Presentation of results in peerreviewed publications and at scientific conferences
  • Contributions to laboratory meetings, e.g. problem solving, internal seminars, journal club
  • Assistance in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Organisation and assistance in general laboratory duties, e.g. equipment maintenance, stores
