Part Time HR and Recruitment Coordinator - Lepra been working for a world free from prejudice and disability, due to leprosy since 1924. Our main objective is to support people affected by leprosy, and lymphatic filariasis (LF)being led by evidence and expertise. To help meet this objective the organisation has identified a need to recruit and onboard a significant number of employees and volunteers. To assist with this, they have a fantastic opportunity for a
HR and Recruitment Coordinator to join their team in Colchester on a part time basis, with the option of hybrid working available.

The role of
HR and Recruitment Coordinator is a time-limited position (6-9 months).

There is however potential for this role to develop into a volunteer's co-ordinator, managing a diverse volunteers base, whilst also assisting with recruitment and support.

We are adopting bias-free recruitment processes to ensure that our staff and volunteers are the best we can get, regardless of who they are and where they are from.


As the
HR and Recruitment Coordinator you will support the Director of Resources in recruiting and onboarding for a diverse range of paid and volunteer roles, overseeing the volunteer base whilst it grows and develops.


Responsibilities include:

  • Working with recruiting managers to ensure that job descriptions are up to date.
  • Ensuring that any recruitment advertisements placed adheres to our values, communication standards and our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion policies.
  • Monitoring responses to adverts and reacting to response levels.
  • Managing the distribution of and collation of responses and competency tests.
  • Managing and recording the outputs from all inter
  • Ensuring that preemployment checks (DBS, Right to Work and references) are carried out.
  • Ensuring that all new starters receive sufficient induction and training and maintaining records.
  • Ensuring that accurate details are recorded for HR and payroll platforms.
  • Exploring the various ways in which volunteers can be recruited.
  • Matching volunteer applicants to volunteer roles.
  • Working with our team to establish and maintain a volunteer project and requirement database.
  • Liaising with existing volunteers to ensure that their needs are met and that they are meeting the needs of teh charity
  • Inducting volunteers and managing the process where volunteering comes to an end.


In 2024, Lepra will be celebrating its Centenary, and we will be using this landmark as a launchpad for our new global strategic plan, which also starts in 2024.

Our new strategy will guide us in our efforts to accelerate progress towards the global elimination targets for leprosy and LF by 2030, and towards our vision of a world free from disability and discrimination due to leprosy and LF.


As the
HR and Recruitment Coordinator you will have at least 1 years' experience within a recruitment, HR environment or volunteer management environment.

You will be highly organised with excellent numeracy and literacy skills and be a confident user of IT systems, including an aptitude for learning new skills.

A CIPD Foundation Certificate is desirable or A Level or higher in relevant disciplines such as Business Management or Human Resources.

You will ideally have experience of or the desire to work within the charity sector and will be able to show that you share Lepra's values.

This role is also suitable for someone who is studying towards their CIPD.

On offer is a salary of £26,300 per annum, pro rata (Full Time Equivalent). Hours to be worked are 17.5 hours to 28 hours per week, days, and times to be arranged. This is a temporary position, potentially leading to permanent employment after 9 months.

The role is initially based within the office in Colchester, however, hybrid working will be available once you are on your feet, with a minimum of one day per week in the office.

We offer a lot of flexibility in working practices and there is free reserved parking available. We also offer 26 days annual leave, pension, and a wellbeing scheme.
