Job summary:

To undertake all work activities as requested by the Mechanical Supervisor/Estates Officer.

To work in accordance with Trust safety rules and procedures at all times.


To be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.

To actively participate in the operation and control of engineering planned maintenance schemes.


To actively participate in the operation of facilities labour control scheme, by completion of all paperwork and reports as required by the scheme.


Carry out all work on equipment as required by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH Regulations, Building and Construction Regulations and the Trust's Safety Policy.

To carry out engineering surveys and compile data, as and when instructed by line managers.

To work overtime to carry out repairs/maintenance not possible during normal hours.


To liaise with the Mechanical Supervisor regarding plant or equipment failures, or deviations to regulations, and to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.


Main duties, tasks & skills required:

Holds a current certificate of training and is competent in the operation and use of a counterbalance fork lift truck for compliance with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998.


Holds a current certificate of training and is competent in the operation and use of bonded abrasive wheels for compliance with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998.

Has detailed knowledge of national Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. Interprets the regulations and notifies line manager of any non-compliance as and when encountered.


Acts as 'Competent Person' within the meaning of the Health & Safety Commission's Approved Code of Practice L- The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems when conducting control measures and strategies.

Interprets the Code of Practice and notifies line manager of any non-compliance as and when encountered.


Performs the duties of the designated staff function 'Maintenance Technician' within the meaning of Health Technical Memorandum HTM04 when carrying out maintenance and routine testing of Hot and Cold Water, storage and distribution systems.


Performs the duties of the designated staff function 'Plant Operator' or 'Competent Person' within the meaning of Health Technical Memorandum HTM03 when carrying out maintenance duties on Ventilation installations.

Welding Advanced Craft E)
