Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom Environment Agency Full time

We are looking for a people leader to support a multi-disciplinary team of environmental professionals through adaptable leadership and effective management of resources.

  • The National Environmental Assessment and Sustainability (NEAS) group within the Major Project and Programme Delivery (MPPD) department oversees the effective management of environmental risk on our Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) projects and helps identify and deliver environmental enhancements that leave a better place. Our NEAS Hub Teams are responsible for the input of high quality environmental and sustainability advice to the Integrated Delivery Teams for each Delivery Hub. Our input is principally at the project development stages where we ensure that the need for environmental consents and approvals is identified.
  • You'll be leading a multidisciplinary team that's involved in groundbreaking and awardwinning work through effective collaboration across internal departments, the wider Defra group, Statutory bodies, our framework delivery partners, businesses and communities.
  • Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team

  • The Team Leader role managing the NEAS North-East Hub is a permanent post.
  • The Hub collaborates with internal and external partners to deliver sustainable projects throughout their lifecycle reducing flood risk, championing environmental improvements, and advocating a sense of shared ownership with local communities across Yorkshire and the North East.
  • The dispersed team is comprised of Environmental Project Managers of diverse professional experience, Landscape Architects and Archaeologists.
Experience/skills required

  • This is a wonderful opportunity for a newly trained or experienced leader to support a dispersed team with embedded collaboration and positive team spirit.
  • You will have successfully led people through change as they continued to deliver complex programmes of work in collaboration with others; through harnessing their skills, nurturing a supportive culture and driving improved performance.
  • Essential:
  • Effective communication skills in a hybrid working setting
  • Experience of supporting individuals through change
  • An understanding of project and programme management
  • Experience of operating in a leadership environment to inspire and motivate others.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of project team management in Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) activities
  • Awareness of project governance
  • An understanding of the environment and sustainability sector
Contact and additional information

  • Benefits include generous pension provision and leave entitlement. Our flexible working practices support a healthy work/life balance and offer numerous choices to embrace your personal commitments.
  • As part of the role you will be required to colocate and work at other Environment Agency offices. You may also be required to attend national meetings in locations such as London and Birmingham, with some overnight stays.
  • Driving licence ideally required as some driving may be necessary. Lease car is available where there is a clear business need.
  • Interviews are anticipated to take place in the fortnight commencing: 23/01/23
