Camberwell, Greater London, United Kingdom St Giles Trust Full time

Job Summary:

SUMMARY

St Giles is an award-winning social justice charity using expertise and real-life past experiences to empower people who are not getting the help they need.

People held back by poverty, exploited, abused, dealing with addiction or mental health problems, caught up in crime, or a combination of these issues and others.

We show people there is a way to build a better future for themselves and those they care about and help them create this through support, advice, and training.

Our peer-led services form the backbone of our work, putting people with lived experience at the centre of the delivery, design, and evaluation of support and services across the UK.

The Opportunity

The People in IOM Engagement Project is an exciting new project, commissioned by the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC), to better understand and respond to the needs of people in Integrated Offender Management (IOM).

The aim of the project is to engage directly with people in IOM and hear from them, in their own words, about their experiences in IOM.

Crucial to this work are our EAs who will be working on the ground in probation delivery units (PDUs) and local hubs across London, conducting semi-structured conversations with people in IOM about their experiences, as well as being involved in the collection and organisation of data.

The role also includes supporting the facilitation of workshops with people in IOM and other important stakeholders i.e., IOM Probation Officers.

It is important to represent the population we are working with and so we are looking for people with lived experience of the criminal justice system.

Please note you must no longer be on license to apply, as this is a requirement of the MOJ Vetting for this project.

We are especially interested in hearing from men, as this group is overrepresented in IOM.

You do not necessarily need experience in this field.

What is important to us is that you have a can-do attitude, an eagerness to learn and a wish to impact positive change in the criminal justice system.

You will be trained to develop several skills, including structured interviewing and group facilitation.

We recognize the impact that this work can have on individuals with a history connected with the criminal justice system and so offer comprehensive emotional and psychological support with regular Peer Supervision (Definition: Group meetings with colleagues in your team to think through challenges in the work in a supportive and non-judgemental way), Clinical Supervision (Definition: 1:1 support from a trained professional to think through challenges in delivery work as well as organisational dynamics) and training in managing boundaries.

We are looking for people who have.

  • Lived experience of the criminal justice system
  • Passionate about influencing positive change in the criminal justice system.
  • Strong communication skills
  • An ability to quickly build rapport with a wide range of individuals.
  • An ability to deal with sensitive information with respect and confidentiality.
  • An ability to accurately record data (We are happy to provide support to neurodivergent individuals in any way possible)
  • An eagerness to learn and develop their own skills.
  • Experience of being a team player
Please see the job description for more details.

Hourly pay inclusive of annual leave accrual and travel expenses paid+ training and support package.

Please note St Giles will guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria set out in the Job Description for the vacancy.

**Closing date: 28th August :00pm Interview date: 06th September 2023
