Job Title: Part-Time Hospital Chaplain at Northampton General Hospital

Northampton General Hospital is located in the heart of Northampton, catering to the county of Northamptonshire. With over 900 beds and a staff of around 5,000, it is widely recognized as an excellent workplace. The Chaplaincy plays a significant role within the hospital community.

We are looking for a Hospital Chaplain (part-time) to join our Chaplaincy Department. The main focus of this role is to address the spiritual, religious, and pastoral needs of patients, their families, and the staff.

Chaplains at our hospital offer a 24/7 service, collaborating closely with healthcare professionals, community partners, and a dedicated team of volunteers. The ideal candidate will work alongside the Senior Chaplain and other members of the team to ensure timely responses to requests and referrals for spiritual and pastoral care.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Providing compassionate care and support to patients and staff, especially during challenging times.
  • Supporting individual and collective well-being through various means such as counseling, end-of-life care, and bereavement support.
  • Working creatively in a multi-faith environment and sharing on-call duties with the team.
  • Engaging in the education and training of healthcare professionals on spiritual and pastoral care.
  • Upholding confidentiality and maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Being part of the Hospital Chaplaincy team requires personal, physical, mental, and spiritual resilience to handle demanding and fast-paced situations effectively. The successful candidate should demonstrate reliability, a secure personal faith, and the ability to work as a reflective practitioner.

Job Specifications:

Education:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent occupational qualification.
  • Ordained priest/minister of a church in membership of Churches Together in England.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Theological Degree.
  • Counselling/ Psychotherapy Qualification

Experience:

  • Experience as an ordained priest/minister.
  • Pastoral experience in diverse settings.

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT literacy.
  • Strong communication skills and self-awareness.
  • Ability to teach is an advantage.

Personal Qualities:
