Context
Full time is Monday-Thursday 8.00pm pm (8 hrs) and Friday (5.5 hrs) 8am - 1.30pm

Term:

The role is offered on a probationary period of - 6 months, following the probationary

period the role will be made permanent.

Main Duties
manufacture of our products meets rigorous international quality standards for the

manufacture of children's play equipment and contract furniture at commercially sustainable

cost. Attention to detail and an aptitude (experience) for factory production is essential.

This list is not exhaustive, but the job holder will be part of a team accountable or

responsible for:

  • Production sewing, work preparation (cutting of sewing accessories such as zips), general product assembly. Working safely, accurately and methodically and keeping timesheets / worksheets to show the work you have done.
  • Prioritising work as agreed with the Sewing Supervisor and meeting expected targets and speed.
  • Personal responsibility for the quality of your own work,
  • Preparation of work (including product labels) for yourself and the other sewing machinists.
  • General sewing and product make up.
  • Turning covers and assembly of finished product.
  • Daily Maintenance of sewing machine to a safe standard, and prompt reporting of any defects
  • From time to time, helping with packing completed orders for shipment, general production and warehouse tasks along with the rest of the team, ensuring the Health and Safety for yourself, your colleagues and all visitors to the premises,
  • Tidying of the workspace to ensure a clean, tidy, safe and hazard free working environment, easy access to all equipment, and a professional image to customers.
  • Stowage and handling of equipment and goods to maintain their value and condition and fitness for purpose.
  • Working as a team with other employees to ensure an efficient workplace and satisfied customers.
  • Attending relevant training courses as organised by management.

Qualifications / Knowledge/Experience
Essential =

  • Operation of a lockstitch sewing machine.
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Critical to success are good verbal communication skills, a focus on customer satisfaction, good organizational skills and attention to detail, manual dexterity (to enable efficient and quick working) and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to listen carefully and carry out instructions given and pay attention to detail.
Desirable =

  • Operation of a walking foot sewing machine.
  • Operation of an overlocking sewing machine
  • A good working knowledge of têxtiles and commercial têxtile factory production systems
  • A keen interest or knowledge of fabrics for example as gained by doing a previous sewing job and craft work.

Training
Supplementary necessary training will be given.

Health and Safety (inc. using machinery if taking prescribed medicines)
a) You will be operating powerful machinery as part of this job which could injure if not used correctly.

b) Due to the nature of the PVC and heavy fabrics we use and the size of our

products some lifting of heavy/bulky items will occur regularly (daily) as part of the job.

c) Successful completion of the role therefore means that you must not have any physical limitation or chronic or pre-existing health conditions that will limit or inhibit your ability to complete and fully carry out the duties required by the role in the time limit specified. You will be required to sign a document to confirm this. The company will make reasonable adjustments and supply equipment to enable you to carry out your role/s.
